Meet the Axolotl!
Axolotls are amazing water animals that look like smiling salamanders! Salamanders can live both in water and on land, but axolotls are special — they stay underwater forever and keep their cute, feathery gills.
Home Sweet Tank
Axolotls like cool, clean freshwater. The best temperature is 16–18°C. Give them a tank that's at least 60 cm long with smooth rocks, plants, and places to hide. They like living alone, because they might bite each other's gills if they share a tank.
What They Eat
Axolotls are meat-eaters. They enjoy worms, small shrimp, and special pellets made for them. Feed them a few times a week and clean out any leftover food.
Keeping Them Healthy
Keep their water cool and clean so they stay happy and healthy. If they stop eating or get white spots, check the water or ask a vet for help.
Fun Facts!
Axolotls can grow back their legs, tail, and even parts of their heart and brain! They live their whole lives underwater. Their name comes from the Aztec god Xolotl, the god of lightning and transformation!
